Rochdale Borough Council has recognised outstanding staff contributions during its ACE Staff Awards, with seven honours presented at Rochdale Town Hall.
Around 200 employees were nominated across the authority, with awards recognising excellence, dedication and service to residents.
The pioneering for change award, sponsored by A and T Surfacing, was presented to the registration team for transforming Rochdale Register Office and improving services for residents.
The trading standards team received the proud to make a difference award, sponsored by Indurent, for work tackling organised crime. The team has targeted illegal ghost car number plates linked to criminal activity and seized more than 94000 fake products over the past year, alongside action against illegal dog breeders.
The passionate about excellence award, sponsored by Willmott Dixon, was jointly awarded to the Number One Riverside reception team and the financial affairs team. Both were recognised for their dedication and support for vulnerable residents in challenging circumstances.
Hateeb Jamil, a townships support officer, was named young employee of the year, sponsored by Rochdale Training. He completed a customer service apprenticeship within the work and skills team before securing a permanent role and was described as going above and beyond in supporting residents.
Rochdale youth service won team of the year, sponsored by Metro Moneywise, for its work supporting young people and delivering services in difficult conditions.
Sarah Lageard was named employee of the year, sponsored by Cooney Civil Engineering, for her work in adult social care. She was recognised for helping shape services and creating inclusive spaces for people to share their experiences.
The outstanding contribution award, sponsored by Channel 3 Consulting, went to the culture and placemaking team at Rochdale Development Agency and Mark Roberts. The team delivered more than 100 events during Rochdale’s year as Greater Manchester Town of Culture, working with over 35 organisations and attracting tens of thousands of visitors. Mark Roberts led the communications campaign, helping to raise the borough’s profile across the North West.
Interim chief executive Julie Murphy said: “The commitment and energy demonstrated by our staff to make the borough a better place and improve the lives of residents is very impressive and doesn’t go unnoticed. Hearing about the achievements of our staff and seeing what they are all delivering makes me and the rest of the leadership team extremely proud.”
The awards were supported by a range of sponsors including Cooney Civil Engineering, Rochdale Training, Metro Moneywise, Indurent, Channel 3 Consulting, A and T Surfacing, Willmott Dixon, Oak Construction Projects and Oxygen Finance. Entertainment on the evening included performances from Bhangracise and singer Rebecca Fitzgibbon.
