A Rochdale woman has organised an Easter initiative bringing entertainment and gifts to residents at a local dementia hub.
Nicole Booth, who lives in the borough, arranged for performers to visit residents at The Willows dementia hub following her involvement in a recent pantomime production.
Nicole, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, which is recognised as part of autism, is a member of a local performing arts group and works part time at B and M Bargains in Rochdale. She recently appeared in the pantomime Aladdin with St Gabriel’s Amateurs.
After taking part in the production, she contacted The Willows through Gail Whitehead to suggest a visit from dancers involved in the show. Following an initial visit, she expanded the idea to include an Easter egg donation for residents.
Nicole said her motivation was shaped by personal experience of seeing a family member live with Alzheimer’s. She wanted to provide meaningful activities and small gestures that could support wellbeing for people living with dementia.
Support for the initiative came from members of Castleton School of Dancing, St Gabriel’s Amateurs, colleagues at B and M Bargains, family members and donors from outside the area. Contributions helped provide Easter gifts for residents alongside the planned entertainment.
Councillor Philip Massey said: "Nicole’s kindness and determination are a shining example of the very best of our community. This initiative not only brought joy to residents at The Willows but also highlighted the importance of inclusion, compassion, and remembering those who can sometimes feel forgotten. Nicole should be incredibly proud of what she has achieved, and I commend everyone who supported her in making this happen."
Staff at The Willows were also acknowledged for their ongoing care and support for residents.
