A 48 hour dispersal order has been introduced across Rochdale town centre following reports of anti social behaviour and criminal damage. The order is in force from 11.30am on Thursday 2 April until 11.30am on Saturday.
Greater Manchester Police said the action follows a number of recent incidents in the town centre.
These included reports on Wednesday of groups of young people harassing staff and causing criminal damage at a business and elsewhere in the area.
The dispersal order gives officers additional powers to deal with behaviour linked to crime or disorder. Under these powers, individuals can be directed to leave the area and not return for a set period of up to 48 hours.
Police said the purpose of the order is to reduce behaviour contributing to anti social activity and to protect people and businesses in the town centre.

Inspector Meena Yasin from GMP Rochdale said “We have implemented this order to provide further powers for officers in the area to robustly deal with anti social behaviour, and to protect people and businesses.”
She added “We will not tolerate anti social behaviour and where this is reported, we will look to take the strongest action whether through proactive action or preventative problem solving work.”
Officers will patrol the town centre while the order is in place.
Anyone with information about crime or anti social behaviour is asked to contact police on 101 or through the live chat service. In an emergency, people should call 999. Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
