Daly's statement read: "It is with great regret that I write to resign as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Ministerial Team at the Department for Work and Pensions.
"Due to recent events, it has become very clear that you are sadly unable to lead our Government and deliver on the policies that will change lives for the better and create opportunity for all.
"Can I thank you for your service to our country and for the opportunity you gave me as a Parliamentary Private Secretary.
"As a result of the above, I have lost confidence in your leadership of our great party and therefore as outlined above I must resign."
