A site manager at a Rochdale development has been recognised with a top national award for the quality of the homes he is building.
Alexander Evans, who leads construction at Silver Hill Manor on Broad Lane, for David Wilson Homes, has won a prestigious Pride in the Job award from the National House Building Council (NHBC), widely regarded as the 'Oscars' of the housebuilding industry.
This marks Alexander's third consecutive Pride in the Job win in as many years, having previously been recognised twice for his work at the Romans Green development in Preston.
Alexander, 31, from Whalley, in Lancashire, has been a site manager for five years, having joined David Wilson Homes, part of Barratt Redrow, seven years ago as an assistant site manager. Before that he worked as a groundworker after graduating from university with a history degree.
Alexander said: “I’m proud to win another NHBC Quality Award, this is a culmination of a massive team effort. Winning a quality award is a massive accolade in the industry and displays the consistency and work ethic of the wider team and business. It’s also a marker of the quality of the development. The architects at David Wilson Homes have designed a really attractive street-scene, which is a pleasure to build. The brickwork and detailing are really strong.”
Silver Hill Manor is a brand-new development in Rochdale, offering a range of high-quality homes in a desirable location close to local amenities, schools, and transport links, including the M62.
Alexander added: “Life as a site manager is different every day. You get to work with interesting people and there are always challenges and problems to solve. There’s never a dull day.”
In total, Barratt Redrow site managers won 122 Pride in the Job awards this year, more than any other housebuilder for the 22nd year in a row.
The awards celebrate the very best site managers across the UK, following thousands of rigorous inspections. Judging is conducted across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise, and health and safety.
The Pride in the Job awards also play a crucial role in raising standards across the housebuilding industry, showcasing the importance of site managers in delivering homes on time, on safe sites, and to the highest standards. By mentoring future talent and sharing best practice, award winners like Alex help drive continuous improvement across the sector.
Claire Jarvis, managing director for David Wilson Homes North West, said: “These awards demonstrate our long-term commitment to looking after our customers and building high quality homes. They also showcase what it takes to be a top site manager, recognising the hard work from the entire team, including suppliers and contractors.
“Anyone who buys a home from a site with a Pride in the Job award winner knows their home has been built to the highest standard.”
