Six individuals have been fined for waste-related offences on the streets of Bury during April, as part of the council’s ongoing efforts to tackle fly-tipping and littering.
Two people received £400 fixed penalty notices – one for fly-tipping on Brierley Street, Bury, and another for a household duty of care breach, which resulted in waste being illegally dumped at Mode Hill, Whitefield.
A further four individuals were each fined £75 for littering in Walmersley Road, Ash Street, Oram Street and Noreen Avenue across Bury and Prestwich.
In the past three years, more than 200 fines have been issued for similar offences, with over 20 people prosecuted in court, highlighting the borough’s firm stance on environmental crimes.
Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, climate change and operations at Bury Council, said: “These people know what they’re doing, and they don’t care if they spoil our neighbourhoods for the residents who live there. We will continue to take action against those who dump their rubbish in our borough.”
The council is encouraging residents to report fly-tipping and littering incidents to help maintain clean and safe streets for all.
