Vernon Kay has joked BBC Radio 2 mornings will sound like Bolton FM after fellow Bolton presenter Sara Cox was named as the station’s new Breakfast Show host.
Kay congratulated Cox on his Radio 2 programme after the BBC confirmed she will take over the breakfast slot this summer.
He said Cox would be “absolutely awesome” and “mega”, before joking that Radio 2 would be “like Bolton FM in the morning”.
Kay added, “Doing it for the best town in the great north west.”
He then suggested both presenters may need to soften their Bolton accents for national radio, before saying, “No chance, not a chance.”
Cox, 51, currently presents Radio 2 Teatime and will replace Scott Mills on the breakfast show.
The BBC said Cox had regularly covered the programme and would bring warmth and humour to mornings.
Cox said she was “ecstatic, honoured and incredibly chuffed” to be given the role.
