Sunshine, street food and sounds as Rochdale's Street Eat returned in sizzling style

Over 3,000 visitors basked in blazing sunshine as Rochdale Town Hall Square hosted the return of its popular Street Eat festival, serving up global cuisine, family fun and live entertainment on Saturday 28 June.

Thousands gathered in the heart of town to sample food and drink from a diverse mix of local traders, with many vendors selling out entirely. The day long event, organised by Rochdale Business Improvement District (BID) and supported by the council, was part of the borough’s year as Greater Manchester Town of Culture 2025–26.

“It was such a busy day, with Street Eat showcasing Rochdale’s growing food and drink scene on our beautiful town hall square,” said BID manager Paul Ambrose. “It was heart-warming to see so many families and friends enjoying time together. The feedback about our traders and performers has been fantastic.”

Live music and performances filled the square, hosted by Happy Radio UK’s Di Lynham. Acts included country rock band Between The Vines, duo Shenanigans, soloist Saskia Starkie, Turners Dance School, ABBA tribute act fABBAlous and performers from Rochdale Music Service.

Children were entertained with classic Punch & Judy shows, face painting, a caricaturist and fairground rides, helping create a vibrant, family friendly atmosphere.

Local favourites such as The Flying Horse Hotel, prosecco bar Sip and Sparkle, Cake Loves Cakes, Vicolo del Vino and Brew Box were among nearly 20 food vendors dishing up global flavours. Newcomer Phat Chows joined the line-up ahead of its planned restaurant reopening on Yorkshire Street.

Mayor of Rochdale Councillor Janet Emsley, who attended with consort Ken Emsley, praised the event: “Rochdale’s chefs have wowed the crowds once again with some amazing food. It was a great celebration of the town’s strong food and drink offer which has certainly gained many more fans.”

Street Eat is one of many events happening this year under the Greater Manchester Town of Culture title, which celebrates Rochdale’s creative talent, cultural heritage and community spirit.

Social media was flooded with glowing praise from attendees, with many calling the event “brilliant”, “fabulous” and “an absolutely cracking day”.
