TV gardener helps raise funds for cancer research at Failsworth event

A community gardening event in Failsworth has raised £750 for cancer research after a talk by television horticulturist David Domoney.

The event was held at Daisy Nook Garden Centre, operated by Manchester based retailer J Parkers, and brought together local residents for a seasonal gardening talk focused on spring planting.

David Domoney delivered a session on top seasonal plants, offering practical advice on planting and care to help gardeners make the most of the season.

All ticket proceeds from the event were donated to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, which supports cancer treatment and research. The organisation is recognised as Europe largest single site cancer centre.

David Domoney said he valued the opportunity to engage with the local community while supporting a charitable cause. He said he enjoyed sharing planting inspiration and highlighting seasonal plants with attendees, adding that it was positive the event would benefit cancer research.

The event forms part of J Parkers In The Community initiative, which aims to provide accessible horticultural activities across Greater Manchester.

Organisers said similar events have taken place throughout the year, including sessions supporting women working in horticulture and a free monthly gardening club. The business has also worked with schools to provide educational opportunities linked to gardening and environmental learning.

Further projects are planned for the summer, including work with pupils at Worthington Primary School to design an international themed garden reflecting the school community. Another project will support primary school pupils in Sale to create a bee friendly garden display for the Chorley Flower Show in July.

Edward Doherty from J Parkers said the event had encouraged visitors to explore the potential of their gardens and thanked David Domoney for contributing his time to support the charity.
