Three juveniles arrested following an attempted robbery in Old Trafford

At around 5.30pm yesterday (Sunday 12 March), a report was made to GMP involving an incident of an attempted robbery in Old Trafford.

A group of three boys approached another boy, aged 14, and made threats to harm him with what was reported as being a knife whilst demanding his gold chain. Thankfully, no property was stolen and the boy was not injured.

Three boys between the ages of 11 and 12 have been arrested on suspicion of personal robbery and remain in custody for questioning by GMP’s Trafford Neighbourhood Crime Team.

Sergeant Jenni Harlow- Smith from GMP’s Trafford Neighbourhood Crime Team, said: “Thankfully, the victim was not physically injured and did not have any property stolen. He has understandably been left shaken by the event.  No one should be subject to such a terrifying ordeal.

“This kind of violent behaviour will not be tolerated in Greater Manchester, and officers in Trafford’s Neighbourhood Crime Team are working hard to tackle this type of criminality.

"I hope these arrests send a clear message that we will investigate this kind of crime thoroughly, and work to ensure those responsible for it face the consequences of their actions.

"Anyone concerned or anyone with information can report it online at www.gmp.police.uk.

"Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
