Improvements at Prestwich Clough and St Mary’s Flower Park

Credit: Bury Council

Bury Council are working alongside Community Interest Company Proffitts – Investing in Communities on a project to improve Prestwich Clough and St Mary’s Flower Park in Prestwich.

Contractors are due to start on site in September, and plans include footpath and access improvements, drainage works, replacing damaged and missing fencing, carrying out essential tree works, and installing more seating and signage.

Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, climate change and operations, said: "Prestwich Clough and St Mary’s Flower Park are both excellent natural spaces, and we are delighted that the Veolia Environmental Trust is supporting us in funding these improvements. Our goal is to ensure that nature thrives in environments like these, while providing nearby communities with accessible, well-maintained outdoor areas that they can enjoy and explore at their leisure.”

Before the plans were finalised, residents and visitors were given the opportunity to share ideas and suggestions for enhancing the areas.

Martin from Proffitts – Investing in Communities commented: “We know that these places matter to people, and we’re delighted to see work taking place that will keep them accessible for everyone. Although the plan involves upgrades across the Clough and the park, a key aim is to minimise any environmental impacts and keep the public space as natural as possible. Both sites will remain open during the work but visitors should expect some disruption when they visit over the coming months.’’

Work on site will last approximately 12 weeks. Weather permitting, the improvements should be complete by the end of the year.
