Businesses across Greater Manchester are being invited to join an official trade mission to Shenzhen and Hong Kong this summer aimed at building new international partnerships.
The five day visit will take place from 15 to 19 June 2026 and will support companies seeking to expand into global markets and strengthen commercial relationships in China.
The mission is being organised by GM Business Growth Hub, Manchester City Council, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the Department for Business and Trade.
Organisers say the programme will give participating firms the opportunity to explore high growth markets, meet potential partners and gain insight into two of China’s most influential commercial centres.
The itinerary will include visits to Hong Kong, a major global financial centre and a hub for financial technology businesses, and Shenzhen, a major manufacturing and technology city known for its electronics industry and innovation sector.
Companies already trading internationally or preparing to enter overseas markets are invited to submit an expression of interest. The deadline for applications is 27 March 2026.
A preparatory briefing for participating businesses will take place during the week beginning 16 April 2026. The session will provide market information, cultural guidance and advice to help firms prepare for the visit.
There are no participation fees for the mission. Selected small and medium sized enterprises may also be eligible to apply for grant funding to support travel and accommodation costs.
China remains one of the United Kingdom’s largest trading partners and the mission is intended to help Greater Manchester firms access opportunities in sectors including advanced manufacturing, digital innovation, clean growth, consumer goods and professional services.
Janine Smith, director at GM Business Growth Hub, said: “The Growth Hub works closely with businesses that are ready to scale, innovate and enter new markets, and China offers a unique combination of high demand, rapid development and strong appetite for UK expertise. This mission will provide invaluable first hand market insight and access to networks that cannot be replicated remotely. Our aim is to give Greater Manchester businesses the confidence, knowledge and connections they need to succeed internationally, and we are delighted to be supporting them on this journey.”
