Aspiring theatre professionals invited for exclusive behind-the-scenes event at the Palace Theatre this September

Young people dreaming of a career in theatre will get a rare glimpse into the technical world of live stagecraft when Get Technical! Behind the Curtain of Moulin Rouge! The Musical arrives at Manchester’s Palace Theatre on Tuesday 23 September 2025 at 2pm.

The event, produced by Global Creatures and supported by ATG Entertainment Creative Learning, marks the launch of Get Technical! on the world tour of Moulin Rouge! The Musical. It is the first time the initiative will take place outside of London, offering insight into the backstage workings of the internationally acclaimed production.

Targeted at those considering a backstage role in theatre, the event will showcase live technical demonstrations, on-stage processes, and talks from the professionals who run the show behind the scenes. From wigs to wardrobe and sound to stage management, attendees will be shown how the production is pulled together each night.

Producer Carmen Pavlovic said the initiative was vital for highlighting alternative careers in the arts. “Backstage is where all the magic happens. Producers are constantly on the lookout for great crew and backstage company members,” she explained.

Roles discussed will include stage management, lighting, hair and makeup, wardrobe, set automation, and more. Team members from the show will share stories about their own career paths, giving tips and advice to those hoping to enter the industry.

Pavlovic added: “We’re thrilled to reach even more people with Get Technical! as part of our World Tour. By launching in Manchester, a creative and vibrant city, we hope young people will be inspired to consider the many potential career pathways in live theatre.”

The event follows similar sell-out sessions in London and overseas, as part of a push to address skills shortages in the backstage theatre industry.

Grace Cameron, Creative Learning Producer at the Palace Theatre & Opera House, said: “Too often, young people are unaware of the wide range of theatre careers available. There is a real demand across the industry for talent in backstage roles and Get Technical! is a spectacular opportunity to showcase these professionals and the vital work they do.

“We’re extremely proud to be working on the delivery of this event with Global Creatures and Moulin Rouge! The Musical, who share that vision.”

Moulin Rouge! The Musical runs at the Palace Theatre Manchester from 20 August to 4 October 2025. Tickets and further details can be found at: https://www.moulinrougemusical.co.uk
