A woman has been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after falling from a bridge onto the M66 motorway in Bury. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Saturday 3 January.
Greater Manchester Police were called just after 4pm on 3 January to reports of concern for the welfare of a woman on the wrong side of a bridge over the M66 near Junction 2.
Shortly after officers arrived, the woman fell onto the motorway below. Paramedics treated her at the scene before she was taken to hospital. Her injuries are described as non-life-threatening.
National Highways confirmed the closures in a statement shortly after 5pm, urging drivers to avoid the area and follow diversion routes.
All lanes reopened shortly before 7.30pm.
Police have not issued further details about the woman involved but confirmed she remains in hospital. Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
