More than 100 apprenticeship places are now open for applications at United Utilities, spanning a wide range of roles from operations and engineering to digital and environmental work.
The 2026 intake is the company’s biggest yet, and includes new positions such as trainee catchment officer and woodland officer. These roles aim to support the region’s sustainability efforts while offering long-term career pathways in a critical infrastructure sector.
To help candidates find roles that match their abilities and interests, the company has introduced a new skills-matching platform powered by Spotted Zebra. This system includes an online career test that guides applicants towards suitable roles based on their strengths and work preferences.
A recent launch webinar attracted over 500 attendees, where prospective candidates heard directly from current apprentices and United Utilities’ staff about what to expect from the schemes.
Laura Spyrou, head of talent acquisition, said to Roch Valley Radio:
We’ve widened the scheme this year to welcome more people from across the business and the region. Our apprenticeships offer real jobs with proper training, strong salaries and long-term prospects.
Apprentice Process Controller Bryce Ainsworth described the programme as “a fresh start”, noting the quality of training and support: “I’d worked before but didn’t feel I had a future. United Utilities offered proper pay, great benefits and clear progression. It’s a fantastic opportunity.”
Applications are open until 23 February, although some roles may close early if filled. Candidates are urged to apply as soon as possible.
Further details, including how to apply, are available on the United Utilities website.
