Two more bike libraries open in Bury

Two more bike libraries have opened in Bury, allowing adults and children alike to borrow a bike for free, at Clarence Park and Openshaw Park.

This is part of a TfGM programme to create a network of free bikes for people to use to promote the benefits of cycling and encourage people to be more active.

The bikes are free to borrow, but you will need to bring proof of address and sign a disclaimer to use a bike.

There are six adult bikes and two junior striders to borrow at Clarence Park and likewise at Openshaw Park.

Bikes can be borrowed for up to a week and returned during opening hours – see below for details.

There are now three bike libraries in the borough – the other is at Radcliffe Library – and more are planned to open in the next few months.

Councillor Kevin Peel, deputy cabinet member for the environment, climate change and operations, said: “We want to get more people cycling, but many people don’t have a bike. Our new bike libraries aim to remove that barrier by providing free bikes for use by any local resident. I’m really excited to open one in Clarence Park and, plus the second at Openshaw, hope that lots of Bury residents will take advantage of this great facility and get on their bikes!”

The new bike libraries are run by volunteers at the Friends of Clarence Park Group and by The BAME Project at Openshaw Park
