Detective Sergeant Rick Mills, of GMP's Rochdale district, said: "Though two suspects are in custody, our investigation is continuing and, as part of that, we are trying to track the car involved - which we believe is a grey Audi TT.
"I appeal to anyone with information, particularly about the whereabouts of the car, to contact us or Crimestoppers. We'd also like to hear from anyone who has dash cam footage from the area surrounding Clement Royds Street between 9pm and 9.30pm last night.
"We are aware of the impact this news will have but, though our investigation is in the early stages, we do not believe there is any threat to the wider community. Extra officers have, however, been deployed for reassurance."
