Two young men are in hospital with serious injuries after a crash near the Slattocks roundabout in the early hours of Sunday morning. Police say both are under arrest on suspicion of vehicle theft and other driving offences.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 3.45am on Sunday 13 July after reports of a serious road traffic collision on the A627(M) near the Slattocks roundabout, close to the Rochdale and Middleton border.
According to Greater Manchester Police, officers found two males, a 19 year old and a man in his 20s, with injuries described as “life-changing”.
Both were taken to hospital, where they remain in custody under arrest.
A GMP spokesperson confirmed the men had been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and additional driving offences. “Investigations are ongoing,” they added.
The incident led to the temporary closure of the westbound stretch of the A627(M) between junction 2 of the M60 and the A664 Rochdale Road. The road was reopened just before 6am on Sunday morning.
No other vehicles or persons are currently known to have been involved, and GMP has not released further details at this stage.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police via 101, quoting incident number 469 of 13/07/2025.
