Teenagers from The Derby and Elton High Schools are celebrating a year of hard work paying off, as GCSE results were collected today, Thursday, 21 August.
There were smiles and sighs of relief across both schools as proud students opened envelopes containing their exam grades. Head Girl and Head Boy at The Elton High School shared their personal triumphs and praised the support received throughout their journey.
Katie, Head Girl at The Elton High School, said:
“The teachers at Elton have been really supportive and made me feel like I could do the best during my exams, and their support has paid off! I’m heading to Holy Cross College to study French, English Language and History A-levels. I am very happy with my results.”
Will, the school’s Head Boy, also had high praise for staff, saying:
“The teachers have been great, and my parents love this school. The teachers do lots of intervention sessions and support. I am really happy with my results and I’m going to Holy Cross College to study Chemistry, Maths and Music Tech.”
Mr J Wilton, headteacher at The Elton High School, congratulated the students and recognised the role of staff and families.
“We’re delighted that so many students are here today to celebrate their results. Their hard work is shown through their achievements, and they are a credit to themselves and the school. I would like to thank our staff who have worked so hard throughout the year, and thank you for the support given by students’ families, which is what Elton is all about: getting the best for our pupils. I wish them all the best for their next steps and beyond, and hope they get the success they all deserve.”

Across town, students at The Derby High School were also enjoying their moment of success. Headteacher Mrs C.H. Hubert said:
“Well done to all our students. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved and the wonderful human beings they have become. We wish them well for the next stage of their education or employment. The Derby has taught our young people to lead the way, and we know they will do great things with their lives.”
Mrs Hubert also gave special thanks to parents and carers, adding:
“Their successes would not happen without the support of staff and their parents and carers, and I would like to thank them for their dedication and support.”
