Six more fined for waste offences

Six people have been fined for fly-tipping offences on the streets of Bury in November.

Fixed penalty notices were served on them: £400 for each fly-tipping offence (five) and £400 for one household duty of care offence.

The offences were committed at: James Street, Bury; Water Street, Radcliffe; Spring Street, Bury; Bridgefield Street, Radcliffe; Benson Street, Bury; and Racecourse Walk, Radcliffe.

Some 200 fines have been issued for littering and fly-tipping across Bury in the last three years, and more than 20 people have been prosecuted in court.

Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, climate change and operations, said: “We will continue to take action against those who dump their rubbish on our streets and green spaces. It blights neighbourhoods, and costs local taxpayers money to clear it up.

“If anyone witnesses such crimes, please give us all the information you have, and we will act.”

Residents can found out more about the household duty of care, and report fly-tipping, online at www.bury.gov.uk/flytipping
