The M62 is shut in both directions between junctions 22 (Rishworth Moor) and 21 (Milnrow) following a serious crash this afternoon.

Traffic is being held on both carriageways to allow emergency services, including an air ambulance, to respond. The crash is believed to have happened on the eastbound side.

Traffic service Inrix reported:
“All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident on M62 in both directions from J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor) to J21 A6193 Sir Isaac Newton Way (Milnrow). Due to an accident on the eastbound side, westbound side closed to allow an air ambulance to land.”

There are no confirmed details yet on any injuries. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area, with delays and congestion building quickly.

The crash comes just weeks after another fatal collision on the M62 near junction 19, where a 24-year-old man died after his car struck a bridge.

Further updates are expected from police and Highways teams.
