Pupils across the Rochdale borough dressed as favourite story characters as schools marked World Book Day this week, with themed activities designed to encourage reading for pleasure.
Children across primary schools in the borough arrived in classrooms wearing costumes inspired by well known book characters as part of the annual World Book Day celebrations.
Many schools organised reading sessions, assemblies and book-themed activities throughout the day. Pupils were encouraged to talk about stories they enjoy and share books with classmates.
Teachers across the borough used the day to highlight the importance of reading beyond the classroom. Activities included storytelling sessions, shared reading time and classroom discussions about favourite authors and characters.
