A 19 year old man has been taken to hospital with suspected life changing injuries to his leg, as police are responding to reports of a shooting on Beswicke Royds Street in Rochdale this afternoon.
Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to the area at around 3.20pm on Thursday following reports that a man had been shot.
Emergency services attended the scene and the injured 19 year old was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are believed to be serious and potentially life-changing.
Several roads around Beswicke Royds Street have been closed while officers investigate the circumstances of the incident. Police said there will be an increased presence in the area as enquiries continue.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said:
"Officers are responding to reports of a shooting at around 3:20pm on Beswicke Royds Street, Rochdale.
"A 19-year-old man has been taken to hospital with suspected life-changing injuries to his leg.
"There are multiple road closures and an increased police presence in the area whilst we look to determine the full circumstances which led to this incident.
"Anyone with information or concerns is encouraged to speak to officers at the scene or call 101 quoting log 2097 of 05/03/2026.
"More information will be provided once we are able to do so."
Police said further information will be released once it becomes available.
