Norden’s Paul Ellison has been made an MBE after more than three decades of dedicated service to his local community.
A well known figure in Rochdale’s voluntary and environmental circles has been recognised with an MBE in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours.
Paul Ellison, 43, of Norden, received the prestigious award for services to the community, acknowledging a volunteering journey that began when he was just eight years old.
Ellison’s contributions span environmental improvement, charity fundraising, event organisation and civic pride initiatives. He is particularly recognised for his leadership in projects aimed at combating fly-tipping, supporting local businesses and securing national acclaim for Rochdale through the RHS In Bloom awards. He was also the first winner of the RHS People’s Award.
In 2020, he helped raise thousands for Springhill Hospice by launching “Rochdale’s Got Talent” during the Covid-19 pandemic. His fundraising efforts over the years have supported numerous community groups and charities.
Ellison, who runs a landscaping business, has long championed civic improvement through voluntary work. As an ambassador for Keep Britain Tidy, he’s played a hands on role in making Rochdale a cleaner and more welcoming place.
Reacting to the honour, Ellison said: “I began volunteering aged eight, and was lucky to have people inspire me and shape the person I am today. I’m blessed with so many great people and communities to work alongside. I’m humbled to have received this honour from His Majesty, the King.”
He added that he plans to celebrate the honour with his daughter Bonnie this Father’s Day.
In 2019/20, Ellison was named Rochdale Man of the Year, and his MBE now further cements his reputation as one of the borough’s most tireless community champions.
