A Detective Constable (DC) from GMP Rochdale’s Child Protection Investigation Unit (CPIU) has received a commendation for his work on a child sexual abuse investigation.
DC 15509 secured multiple charges following an 18-month investigation, during which he worked with the victim to ensure she felt supported and able to assist him with his enquiries.
He was nominated by his Inspector and the nomination was endorsed for escalation to the Chief Constable by the district’s Detective Superintendent Phil Key. Detective Superintendent Key said: “This officer’s work perfectly encapsulates everything we have been trying to achieve in child sexual abuse investigations both in Rochdale and across Greater Manchester. He made the victim the centre of his investigation – spending time building rapport, trust and confidence, and was absolutely committed to ensuring his case is built on a strong evidence based.”
DC 15509 is receiving his commendation tonight (Tuesday 3 October 2023) at the force’s monthly Long Service, Retirement and Awards Ceremony.
In readiness for accepting the commendation, he said: “This is the most challenging investigation I have ever led. I am proud of the work I have done on the case – which included eventually getting the girl to engage with me and provide video interview evidence – and I am chuffed to have received recognition for it. Receiving this commendation is one of the highlights of my 20-year career in policing.”
