Rochdale has taken part in Hate Crime Awareness Week, with housing, council and police teams working together to engage local communities and support victims.
Staff from Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH), Greater Manchester Police and Rochdale Borough Council spent the week attending sessions in Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale. The aim was to help residents recognise hate crime, understand how to report it, and feel confident in seeking support.
RBH enforcement officers joined the sessions to offer guidance to their customers, while police officers gave practical advice on staying safe and accessing help. The events formed part of a wider effort across Greater Manchester to show solidarity and break down barriers that prevent victims from speaking out.
Hate crime can include verbal abuse, threats, harassment or violence motivated by race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity. Residents were reminded they can report it to the police or seek help from local services such as RBH's dedicated support line at SpeakUp@rbh.org.uk
Organisers said the week was about sending a clear message that hate crime will not be tolerated in any part of the borough.
