Rochdale Borough Council has confirmed that chief executive James Binks has resigned from his role, bringing to an end weeks of speculation following his suspension.
A spokesperson for the council told Roch Valley Radio: “James Binks has resigned from his position as chief executive of the council. A recruitment process to select a new chief executive will now begin.”
The council also confirmed that Mr Binks is leaving under the organisation’s standard terms and conditions and will not receive any financial settlement as part of his departure.
Following the suspension, Julie Murphy, the council’s director of corporate services was appointed interim chief executive.
A full recruitment process will now be undertaken to find a permanent replacement, but no timescale has yet been provided. Ms Murphy is expected to continue in the interim role until a new appointment is made.
