Locals can find out about a range of different health, care and council services at a special event, which is taking place this month at Rochdale Town Hall.
The Rochdale Borough Health Fair will bring together a host of experts, with specialists from the NHS, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, the council and many more on hand to chat to residents about local services which can improve their health and wellbeing.
Visitors will be able to find out about a range of things including local cancer screening services, SEND services and mental health support as well as getting blood pressure checks, all under one roof.
The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service will be on hand offering free home fire risk assessments, while council staff will offer support with housing issues, recycling and pest control and local jobs and training opportunities.
Your Trust Rochdale, the charity that runs the council’s leisure facilities, will be sharing information on the huge range of health and fitness sessions available at the borough’s leisure centres, while organisations like Kashmir Youth Project, the Rochdale Carers’ Hub and Healthwatch Rochdale will also be on hand to chat to people at the event.
Council teams from the housing and environment departments will be ready to support with issues, while the work and skills team will be advising on local jobs, training and volunteering opportunities, as well as helping people who would like to get online and those who need help with learning English as a second language.
Councillor Daalat Ali, cabinet member for health at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “There are a huge number of fantastic free services available across the borough to support people’s health and wellbeing, which people might not be aware of.
“This event is a great way for people to find out all about these different services and speak to the experts, face-to-face, all in one place and in a relaxed environment. It’s also being held in our stunning, and recently restored, Rochdale Town Hall, and people will have the opportunity to have a look around this incredible space while they’re there. Visitors might even wish to try out the town hall’s fabulous onsite restaurant, The Martlet, and make a day of it.”
The event will bring together more than 50 different stallholders from across the public and voluntary sectors, which offer vital services that can improve people’s lives and also help prevent any future health issues.
The Rochdale Borough Health Fair takes place on Thursday 15 May in the great hall at Rochdale Town Hall. The event takes place from 10.30am to 1.30pm and people can call in at anytime.
