Amanda’s final wish brings colour and kindness as family and friends raise thousands for Springhill Hospice
A courageous young woman from Rochdale has left a powerful legacy after inspiring a viral fundraiser in support of Springhill Hospice, just days before her death.
Amanda, who was cared for at the hospice’s Inpatient Unit in mid-April, touched staff and visitors alike with her positivity, strength and signature cheeky smile. Wanting to give back to those who supported her, Amanda rallied her loved ones and just about everyone she knew, to help raise money for the hospice.
On 17 April, Amanda gathered with 43 friends and family outside Springhill Hospice, all wearing specially made Springhill hoodies in a rainbow of colours. The photoshoot quickly went viral, with the post being shared 451 times on social media and raising £1,290 in hoodie sales alone.
Since the shoot, hoodie orders through the hospice’s online shop have continued to rise, all thanks to Amanda’s heartfelt campaign.
Tragically, Amanda died in the Inpatient Unit on Friday 25 April, surrounded by the people who loved her most. But her vibrant spirit lived on at her funeral in May, where mourners wore their colourful Springhill hoodies once more, just as she had asked.
Springhill Hospice described Amanda as “a courageous, passionate and inspirational young woman,” adding that they felt fortunate to have known her.
