Officers make four arrests and seize drugs, cash, and eight weapons in day-long operation tackling violent and drug-related crime
Four people have been arrested and eight weapons recovered following a high-visibility police operation in Rochdale aimed at tackling violent and drug-related crime.
The proactive deployment, carried out on Sunday 19 October 2025, formed part of Operation Venture, Greater Manchester Police’s ongoing strategy to reduce serious violence across the region.
Officers from GMP’s Violence Reduction Unit carried out plain-clothes and uniformed patrols in Rochdale town centre, targeting offenders involved in the supply of class A drugs and the possession of dangerous weapons.
The day’s activity began when officers stopped a man seen wearing a balaclava. He was found to be carrying a bladed weapon. A search of his home later uncovered further weapons.
Later that day, officers intercepted a suspected drug deal involving two men in a stolen vehicle. Drugs, cash, and burner phones were seized, and both suspects were arrested at the scene.
In a third incident, officers witnessed another suspected drug exchange. The suspect was found to be in possession of class A drugs, a burner phone, cash, and several weapons. A follow-up house search revealed further items.
In total, four arrests were made:
-
A 34-year-old man on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and an offensive weapon
-
A 39-year-old man on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs
-
A 38-year-old man on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs
-
A 17-year-old boy on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs, possession of a bladed article, and possession of an offensive weapon
All four remain in police custody.
According to Superintendent Rick Thompson, GMP conducted five stop searches, with four yielding “positive results.” Officers also carried out four house searches, three of which uncovered additional evidence.
Among the weapons recovered were machetes, axes, and a Kukri-style knife. Officers also seized around £500 worth of drugs and £200 in cash.
“These results demonstrate the continued commitment of local policing teams to tackle serious crime and protect communities from harm through proactive policing,” said Supt Thompson.
