At around 3.40pm yesterday (Wednesday 7 March 2024), officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Halifax Road, Rochdale between a vehicle and pedestrian.
It is believed that a Land Rover Defender was travelling in a westerly direction along Halifax Road heading towards Rochdale town centre when the vehicle collided with a pedestrian who was crossing the road.
The pedestrian, a 70-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries. He remains there in a critical condition.
The driver of the Land Rover, a 29-year-old man, remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.
The man was interviewed by detectives and released under investigation pending further enquiries.
GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.
