A robbery investigation is underway after a man threatened shop staff with a knife at a convenience store in Middleton.
The incident occurred on Saturday 12 April at approximately 9.15am at a shop on Rochdale Road. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said a man entered the premises wielding a knife and demanded that staff open the till.
However, when the alarm was triggered, the suspect fled the scene. It is believed he may have escaped in the direction of Hollin Lane.
No injuries were reported, but police have described the incident as deeply distressing for those involved.
An image of a man officers would like to speak to in connection with the incident has been released. Detectives believe he may hold key information that could help their enquiries.
Detective Constable Alexandra Fitzpatrick of GMP’s Rochdale division said: “This must have been a frightening experience for staff and members of the public who were in the store at the time, and whilst I am relieved no one was injured, I understand the concern incidents of this nature will cause.
“We are following up a number of lines of enquiry and are keen to speak to anyone with information that will assist us.”
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have footage – including CCTV, mobile or dashcam – to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 8519 or 101, quoting incident number 936 of 12/04/2025.
Information can also be shared anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
