Rochdale’s Poet Laureate Sammy Weaver is inviting people across the borough to share their favourite local spots as part of a unique creative project.
Residents are being asked a simple question: “What is your favourite place in Rochdale and why?”
Selected responses will be woven into a brand new poem celebrating the borough’s landscapes, landmarks and stories.
Anyone who lives or works in Rochdale can take part by filling in a short online form. Submissions are open until Thursday 12 September 2025.
The initiative aims to capture the spirit of Rochdale through the voices of its people, giving residents the chance to see their thoughts and experiences transformed into a collective work of art.
Sammy Weaver said the project is about community as much as creativity:
“Poetry has the power to bring people together. By sharing your favourite place, you’re helping to create something that celebrates Rochdale in all its variety and richness.”
Entries can be submitted here: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/Qp1SND8eLx
.
The finished poem will be unveiled later this year as part of Rochdale’s cultural programme.
