Mayor of Bury joins residents and community leaders to commemorate Pakistan’s 78th year of independence
Celebrations took place throughout the borough of Bury today, Thursday 14 August, to mark the 78th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence.
To mark the occasion, the Pakistani flag was raised at the community flagpole on Knowsley Street as part of a special civic ceremony.
The Mayor of Bury, Councillor Noel Bayley, was invited to take part in the event, joining local residents, community representatives, and members of Bury’s British-Pakistani community.
Also in attendance were local councillors, faith leaders, representatives of community groups, and members of the public, many of whom came together to show support for the borough’s shared values of diversity, inclusion, and civic pride.
The event formed part of a wider calendar of multicultural celebrations taking place in towns across Greater Manchester during the summer season.
