Oasis Heaton Park comeback sparks major public transport plan for 300,000 fans

Transport bosses have unveiled a detailed travel plan ahead of Oasis’ five night reunion run at Heaton Park this July, which will draw more than 300,000 fans to the 80,000 capacity venue.

Greater Manchester’s transport network is being bolstered to support the surge in visitors for what’s expected to be one of the biggest musical homecomings in years.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) will run a dedicated tram service every six minutes from Victoria station to Heaton Park on each concert day. All trams on the Bury line will be double trams, with capacity for up to 4,000 passengers per hour.

Concertgoers are advised to travel early and plan ahead. Fans holding front-standing tickets should use Bowker Vale tram stop for the nearest access point to the Sheepfoot Lane entrance. Heaton Park tram stop will close at 9pm, with Bowker Vale also being the main exit for return journeys.

Engineering work means there will be no trams from Piccadilly Station to city centre stops. Travellers should change at Victoria where needed, and those using the Eccles or Bury lines should expect to change trams to reach central Manchester.

On July 11th, 12th and 19th, the final trams back to the city centre will depart at 2.02am, while the last services to Bury leave at 1.16am. Times are slightly earlier on July 16th.

For those travelling by bus, a shuttle will run from Lever Street in the Northern Quarter to Heaton Park between 1.30pm and 7.30pm on show days. Return services will depart from a temporary station inside the park from 10pm until all passengers are transported back to Shudehill Interchange.

Shuttle bus tickets cost £10 and must be bought in advance via the Bee Network app.

Driving to the event is discouraged, with heavy congestion and road closures expected around Heaton Park. Fans who must travel by car are urged to use park and ride facilities. Key sites on the Bury line include Whitefield (331 spaces) and Radcliffe (480 spaces).

Steve Gilholme, TfGM’s Head of Events, said the event is set to be a landmark moment: “Those lucky enough to get tickets won’t want to miss a minute – and the best way to get to Heaton Park and back will be to take advantage of the great public transport options on offer.”

The transport network will also be managing extra demand from other major events, including Billie Eilish at Co-op Live and Kool & The Gang at AO Arena.
