Nominations have opened for this year’s Raising Rochdale Education Awards, which recognise teachers, tutors, support staff and education teams across the borough. The awards evening is due to take place at Rochdale Town Hall on Friday 20 November.
Pupils, parents, carers, governors and school staff are being invited to put forward names for people and teams they believe go above and beyond in supporting children and young people.
The awards are now in their third year and celebrate the work of education professionals across Rochdale borough who help give children and young people the best start in life.
Organisers said nominations could recognise an individual helping a child to thrive in the classroom or a wider team working to give pupils the best possible education.
Shortlisted nominees will be invited to the ceremony at Rochdale Town Hall, where winners will be announced in front of colleagues and guests.
Andrew Bridson, headteacher of Cardinal Langley RC High School and organiser of the event, said, “Our education system works tirelessly every year to make a lasting impact on our children and young people.
“From supporting pupils to succeed in their exams and providing that nurturing care and support to those who need a little extra help, these people are amazing and this is our chance to highlight their work and say thanks for everything they do.
“Last year, nominations nearly doubled, with more than 600 entries sharing some truly inspirational stories. We hope to receive even more this time round, and I encourage everyone to take a few minutes to submit a nomination as it really does make a difference.”
Sharon Hubber, director of children’s services at Rochdale Borough Council, said, “We are delighted to support this year’s awards and look forward to another successful evening celebrating the outstanding dedication of education professionals across our borough.
“They all work tirelessly to support us in giving children and young people the best start in life so let’s come together to appreciate their ongoing efforts to ‘Raising Rochdale’ and submit those nominations today.”
There are 18 categories this year, including commitment to inclusion, mental health and wellbeing, teacher of the year, tutor of the year and school or college of the year.
Nominations remain open until Friday 10 July through Rochdale Council’s website.
