A refreshed safety guide has been launched across Greater Manchester to help residents, students and visitors enjoy nights out with confidence.
The Good Night Out Guide, refreshed following feedback from students and partners, has been rolled out this week across Greater Manchester. It highlights practical advice, safe spaces, and trusted services for anyone heading into the city’s nightlife.
Copies of the guide are being handed out to students arriving in Manchester, while posters are on display in bars, clubs and public transport, ensuring safety advice reaches people where they need it most.
The updated edition features clearer guidance, including what to do if something goes wrong, advice on drink spiking, how to report incidents, and where to find support services.
Kate Green, Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester for Safer and Stronger Communities, said the guide was a vital part of the city’s thriving night-time economy. She said:
“We know how important it is for people to feel safe on a night out which is why our Good Night Out Guide is so important to us. It is great to see the guide updated following all the important feedback we’ve received from people across the city-region.”
Spencer Davies, Head of Advice and Response at the University of Manchester, added that the guide reflected the university’s wider commitment to student wellbeing, extending beyond campus into the city.
Councillor Joanna Midgley, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council, said Manchester’s nightlife was world-renowned but ensuring people could enjoy it safely remained the priority.
Greater Manchester Police have also supported the launch. Superintendent Nicola Williams pointed to targeted operations, including patrols in Peter Street, the Northern Quarter and the Village, which have reduced serious offences and promoted reporting of incidents like spiking. Officers now distribute prevention materials alongside the guide in busy nightlife hotspots.
By updating and promoting the Good Night Out Guide, Greater Manchester authorities say they are reinforcing a city-wide commitment to safety, inclusivity and creating positive experiences for everyone enjoying the night-time economy.
