New CCTV monitoring centre in Rochdale

Rochdale Borough Council has invested in a state-of-the-art closed-circuit television CCTV monitoring centre that will help improve security across the borough.

The centre opened on Tuesday 8 February 2022 after 12 months in the making and is based at Rochdale police station, enhancing the already close partnership between the council and Greater Manchester Police (GMP). The live feed will be monitored 24 hours per day, seven days a week to assist with crime prevention and the prosecution of offenders. It can also be used as an evidence resource to deal with complaints from residents. Councillor Susan Smith, portfolio holder for communities and cooperation, said: “We are pleased that we have been able to install this CCTV system to deter antisocial behaviour and criminal activity taking place in the borough. We take the safety of our residents extremely seriously. Investing in this state of the art centre was an important step we needed to take towards helping people feel reassured, creating a safer environment for our residents to live, work and play in.” Chief Superintendent Nicky Porter, of GMP’s Rochdale district, said: “Making Rochdale a safe and welcoming place for the local residents and visitors is key for all of our officers. “Not only will the new CCTV system mean we can swiftly detect and respond to incidents of crime, allowing us to greater protect members of the public, the cameras will also serve as a deterrent to offenders and antisocial behaviour.”
