A new specialist dementia care home with open green spaces and communal areas for families could be built in Rochdale.
The 74-bed facility would contain a mix of dementia, nursing, and respite one-bed apartments designed to meet the specialist needs of the elderly.
The site, just a stone’s throw from Highfield Hospital off Manchester Road, would be managed by Parklands Care/Arm Around Care Group – a small care provider currently operating in Preston.
If approved, the new four-storey building would house 21 dementia care beds, 48 nursing bedrooms and five respite bedrooms.
The respite rooms would be on the ground floor alongside a reception area, visitor lounge and café, prayer/multifunction room and dining/communal area. The dementia rooms would be on the first floor with 24 nursing care rooms on both floors above.
Outside will be communal gardens with tree, plant and grass planting as well as a 13-space staff car park and an ambulance refuge area.
Addressing staffing the care home, planning papers read: “A total of 22 members of staff will be based at the care home, split between management, care/medical, security and cleaning staff.
“There will be no more than 18 employees on site at any one time, operating across four shifts within a 24-hour period.
“These shifts will vary from six to 12 hours depending on employment terms and time of day.
“Final staffing arrangements are to be finalised and will depend on the total amount of residents, the level of care needed and the operational requirements of Parklands Care.”
A decision on the proposal, tabled by CS Manchester Road Limited, will be made by Rochdale Council in the coming months.
