A naked man caused disruption on a busy Bury road on Wednesday morning, swatting at cars and attempting to open vehicle doors before being detained and taken to hospital.
Traffic was brought to a standstill on Rochdale Road, Bury, after a naked man was seen walking into the middle of the road shouting and interacting aggressively with vehicles.
The incident occurred shortly before 11am on Wednesday, 22 October, and was captured on video by a local resident. In the footage, the man is seen swatting at cars, attempting to open a van door, and striking windows before stopping oncoming traffic.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that officers were called to the scene following reports of a man “behaving aggressively in the street and causing damage to vehicles”.
A 25-year-old man was detained at the scene and taken to hospital. He remains in care. No injuries to members of the public have been reported.
Marley Wylie, who recorded the video while in a car with family members, described the incident as “disturbing”.
“We assumed he was under the influence as he started swatting at cars,” he said. “He then tried to open a silver van door and hit the window. This was disturbing as we didn’t know if he was going to come to us next.”
The man then stepped into the centre of the road and stopped traffic, according to eyewitnesses.
Wylie’s video, captioned “Be careful in Bury”, was widely circulated on social media on Wednesday. Online reactions ranged from concern to disbelief, with hundreds commenting on the footage.
The man’s identity has not been made public. GMP said further updates may follow depending on the outcome of the hospital assessment and any subsequent investigation.
