Moorside councillor, Cllr Kevin Peel will be standing down at the next local elections in May.
Cllr Peel won his Moorside seat in May 2021, after Annette McKay became an independent candidate.
Previously he’s been a councillor on Manchester City Council between 2011 & 2018 as well as being the office manager for the former Bury North MP James Frith between 2017 & 2019.
Peel said: “I’ve loved serving as a councillor for the people of Moorside over the last two years. It has honestly been a great privilege and I’m really proud of all we’ve achieved in such a short time, but after a dozen years of either running election campaigns for others or running for election myself, I’m exhausted and need a little time off from the electoral cycle”
He added that he will continue to serve the people of Moorside until election day.
Local Labour members will choose a new candidate for the ward in the New Year.
