Emergency services remain at the scene on Windermere Road this evening after house left charred by flames.
A serious house fire in Middleton has triggered the evacuation of nearby homes and a significant emergency response, with the residential street on Windermere Road still cordoned off by police this tea time.
The blaze broke out shortly after 3.40pm on Thursday, 10 July, affecting the ground and first floor of an end terrace house. Five fire engines from Heywood, Chadderton, Whitefield, Salford and Bury were sent to the scene, along with a hydraulic platform from Oldham.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that residents from some neighbouring homes were also evacuated for safety as crews worked to bring the fire under control.
A spokesperson for GMFRS said:
“At shortly after 3.40pm on Thursday (July 10) five fire engines from Heywood, Chadderton, Whitefield, Salford and Bury fire stations and the hydraulic platform from Oldham fire station attended a fire involving the ground and first floor of an end of terrace house on Windermere Road, Middleton.
Residents of some nearby properties were evacuated for their safety while firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels to extinguish the fire. Crews remain in attendance.”
Although the flames have now been put out, smoke continued to smoulder from the building. Images from the scene show the house badly damaged, with the front visibly blackened by smoke.
North West Ambulance Service confirmed there have been no reported injuries, but it is not yet known if anyone was inside the property at the time of the fire.
Police and paramedics also remain at the scene as investigations continue. Windermere Road has been closed in both directions with police tape, and residents are being asked to avoid the area.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
