Metrolink (KAM), operator of the UK’s largest light rail network, is recruiting new tram drivers for its upcoming training programmes, with the next cohort beginning on Monday 2 June 2025.
The role offers a starting salary of £26,420 per year and is full-time and permanent. Successful applicants will complete a 12-week training programme covering safety, practical assessments, simulator use, and written exams. Full attendance throughout the training is required.
Applicants must be aged 21 or over, hold a full UK driving licence with no more than three penalty points and at least two years of driving experience, and be able to work shifts including nights, weekends, and bank holidays. Colour vision deficiency is not permitted due to safety requirements, and the role includes physical duties such as climbing into trams and manually operating track levers.
The recruitment process includes medical and safety checks, drug and alcohol screening, reference checks for the last three years, and a right to work verification. All tram drivers are subject to random drug and alcohol testing once employed.
Free tram travel is included for the employee and one immediate family member. Staff also receive access to retail discounts, an employee assistance programme, and enhanced family leave benefits.
Initial assessments and interviews will take place on 8 - 9 May, 4 - 5 June, and 10 - 11 July. Additional training start dates are scheduled for 21 July and 18 August 2025.
Applications close at 6pm on Friday 23 May 2025. The application window may close earlier depending on the number of submissions. Interested applicants can apply at: Tram Driver
