Greater Manchester Police have confirmed plans for a significant policing presence at Heaton Park as over 300,000 fans prepare for the much anticipated Oasis reunion starting today, Friday, 11 June.
In what some would call the legendary Manchester band, Oasis, will perform five homecoming gigs at the venue on 11, 12, 16, 19 and 20 July.
Authorities have been preparing for over six months, working closely alongside Manchester City Council, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), North West Ambulance Service, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, and other local partners.
Following the successful management of major events at Heaton Park earlier this summer, including Catfish and The Bottlemen and Parklife Festival, GMP has emphasised its experience in ensuring safety for large-scale gatherings.
Assistant Chief Constable Matt Boyle stated: “Our priority is to ensure everyone’s safety. We have worked closely with event organisers and partners to make sure the event is safe and enjoyable for those attending, whilst minimising any crime or antisocial behaviour impacts on local residents.”
Attendees are advised to plan their journeys ahead of time, with TfGM providing up-to-date travel guidance. Alternative routes, including a clearly marked walking route to Manchester city centre, will help reduce congestion and potentially offer quicker options than public transport.
Officers and event security will maintain a highly visible presence both within the park and in surrounding areas to prevent crime and disorder, manage traffic flow, and reassure local communities.
ACC Boyle added: “We encourage everyone attending to enjoy themselves but remain vigilant, secure their belongings, and promptly report any suspicious activity to police or security staff. Be prepared for potentially hot weather and ensure you have planned your journey well.”
GMP has also reassured visitors to Manchester without tickets that additional Oasis-related attractions and events will be available across the city centre.
