Man in 'critical condition' after falling from bridge in Heywood

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after falling from a bridge in Heywood.

Police were called to Queens Park Road in Heywood at around 7:30am this morning.

Officers attended to engage with the male, but he fell from the bridge shortly after.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in a critical condition.

A GMP spokesperson said: “Shortly after 7.30am this morning (Sunday 31 October) police were called over concerns for the welfare of a man on Queens Park Bridge in Heywood, Rochdale.”

“Officers attended to engage with the man but he fell from the bridge a short time later.

“Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He remains in hospital in a critical condition.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

Queens Park Road remains closed in both directions between Bury & Rochdale Old Road and Queens Park.

TfGM are asking the public to avoid the area and use an alternative route via Bamford Road.
