Man dies after being found injured on Bacup street as murder probe launched

Two arrested as police appeal for witnesses following fatal incident in Bacup.

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man in his 30s died on a residential street in Bacup, Rossendale, during the early hours of Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to Newchurch Road shortly after 12.30am on 1 November. Officers on patrol spotted paramedics attempting to resuscitate the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene despite their efforts.

A murder investigation has now been launched by Lancashire Constabulary. A 26-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Bacup, were arrested and remain in police custody.

The area between Clough Street and Olive Street was cordoned off for several hours while crime scene investigators worked at the location. The cordon has since been lifted.

Detective Chief Inspector Bryony Midgley from the force’s Major Investigation Team said:

“A man has lost his life and first and foremost my thoughts are with his loved ones at this distressing time. Work is now ongoing to establish the circumstances which led to his death.

“Although two people have been arrested, our enquiries are very much ongoing. That is why I am appealing directly to the public: if you witnessed or heard anything suspicious, or have any footage which could assist my detectives with their enquiries, please make contact with the police as soon as possible.”

Police have urged people with dashcam or doorbell footage taken in the area between midnight and 12.35am to come forward, particularly anyone who was in or near the Rosemount Working Men’s Club on the evening of 31 October.

A Home Office post-mortem examination will be conducted in due course to establish the cause of death. Officers confirmed the incident is being treated as isolated, but have increased patrols in the area as a precaution.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Lancashire Police on 101 quoting log 50 of 1 November, or email forcecontrolroom@lancashire.police.uk.
