A teenager has been arrested after a police chase through Rochdale ended in a crash that left one passenger fighting for their life.
A 19 year old man has been arrested following a serious road traffic collision in Rochdale after a vehicle failed to stop for police officers on Thursday evening.
At approximately 6.15pm on Thursday 5 June, officers conducted a routine stop on a vehicle on Drake Street. However, the driver made off, prompting a police pursuit through the town. During the chase, the suspect’s vehicle collided with multiple other vehicles.
A passenger in the fleeing car sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for emergency treatment. Another individual, travelling in a separate vehicle involved in the collision, suffered minor injuries.
The suspected driver fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended. Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that a 19 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision. He remains in custody for questioning.
GMP has launched a public appeal for witnesses, particularly anyone with dashcam footage who may have been in the area at the time of the incident.
A spokesperson for GMP urged: “Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4741, quoting log 2751 of 5 June 2025. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
