Major road improvements will be made in Bury town centre, commencing next month
Bury Council, as part of their highway investment strategy, will be upgrading a key route near Bury Bridge. The resurfacing of the carriageway is estimated to last for six to seven weeks.
Due to the complex nature of the Bury Bridge junction, various sections of the highway will be closed to traffic, with diversion routes in operation.
Councillor Alan Quin, cabinet member for the environment, climate change, and operations, said:
“Bury Bridge is one of our busiest junctions- used by 60,000 vehicles a day- so these works will make a real improvement. There will inevitably be some disruption, but by doing the work at night we hope to keep this to a minimum.”
These improvements will lead to the closure of Bolton Street, Jubilee Way, and Crostons Road over the coming weeks, starting on the 13th of June from 8pm to 3am.
Cllr Quinn said they were putting a “tremendous” amount of money into the improvements: “our budget this includes provision for £10 million to improve highways and road safety, in the third phase of £30m. The £30m is borrowed money, due to the shortfall in finance from the Government to the tune of £4m per year”.
The Government will try to maintain access to businesses and properties wherever possible, and pedestrian access will always be maintained.
