Four people have been injured following a multi-vehicle collision in Bury.
The M66 is currently closed in both directions between J3 & J4, with resources from Greater Manchester Police, North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service on scene.
Two air ambulances have also landed on the northbound side of the carriageway.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service said: "A serious road traffic collision involving four vehicles has completely closed the M66 in both directions between junctions 3 and 4.
"Police, ambulance crews, the air ambulance, and firefighters are working together to help three children and one adult who have been injured.
"The motorway will remain closed while we work so please avoid the area and use alternate routes."
Emergency services are continuing to work at the scene.
