Mill Gate Shopping Centre in Bury is marking Valentine’s with a community-driven celebration, highlighting everyday connections and messages of love rather than traditional grand gestures.
Shoppers visiting Mill Gate this February are being encouraged to pause and reflect on their relationships through interactive experiences. A giant heart installation and themed selfie spot offer visitors a chance to share photos with loved ones, while the centre’s award-winning Positivity Wall invites handwritten notes of encouragement, gratitude or affection.
Centre Manager Angela Tierney said the aim is to foster connection. “Whether that’s leaving a message or taking a photo with someone special, it’s about celebrating the relationships that matter to our community,” she said.
The campaign is open to everyone, including those wanting to show appreciation for friends, family or the town itself. It reflects a wider trend towards inclusive celebrations that value wellbeing and kindness.
Adding a local touch, Mill Gate’s new jewellery retailer Miss Dee is hosting a competition offering a £100 Nomination bracelet as a prize. It’s the only shop in Bury currently selling the brand. The competition closes on 11 March.
Mill Gate’s focus on community isn’t limited to Valentine’s. The centre plays a year-round role in local life, combining shopping with regular events and services. “Mill Gate has always been about more than shopping,” Ms Tierney added. “It’s a place where people feel part of something.”
